Kpatinga Calm After After Chieftaincy Clashes

There is relative calm at Kpatinga in the Gushegu District of the Northern Region after Police and military forces were dispatched to bring down the heightened tensions in the area. The clash, which led to gunshots and burning of properties on Friday was as a result of confusion amongst some traditional leaders of the town. Those who got injured are currently receiving treatment at the Gushegu hospital while one person whose injury is said to be serious has been transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital. Assemblyman for the area, Alhassan Ziblim told Citi News that there is heavy security presence in the area. “The place is very calm as we speak. Currently, the army men are already in town. Police officers are also going around, surveying the area.” A misunderstanding that ensued between some two chieftaincy factions, Citi News understands, resulted in the chaotic scenes in the Kpatinga township leading to the clashes on Friday. E/R: Armed Men Besieges Community As Developer Seize Farmlands

Residents of Obregyima near Panpanso, a farming community in the Nsawam Adoagyir Municipality of the Eastern region are agitating against the destruction of their farmlands by a developer who has come to the community with armed men. Large hectares of farmlands have been graded destroying crops and fruits planted by the farmers without any negotiation. The developer identified as Kofi Acquah is alleged to have announced to the community that the land has been leased to him by the Overlord of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional area, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin. Following the announcement, the developer reportedly stormed the community with alleged armed land guards wielding machetes and guns unleashing terror on the farmers scaring them away from their own farms. Mankessim: Wife Of Suspected ‘Cop killer’ Defends Husband

Wife of prime suspect in the killing of Lance Corporal Kingsley Boahene, Karen Hammond has told Citi News her husband is innocent of charges pressed against him. Owner of Zen Filling Station in Mankessim Isaac Eshun, was arrested over suspicions he shot and killed Lance Corporal Boahene some 200 meters away from his fuel station. He and his driver, Benjamin Eshun who is the second accused have been remanded into police custody. Audit Service Eyes Electronic Assets Declaration

Ghana Audit Service is planning to introduce an electronic version of the assets declaration form for public service officers this year. The platform, expected to be introduced by mid-May 2020, will ensure efficiency and the collation of detailed information of public officers. The move will also give officers the opportunity to sit in the comfort of their homes and fill the form and submit without having to move physically to the offices of the Ghana Audit Service. Benefits of digitisation The Assistant Public Relations Officer of the service, Mr Bernard Conduah, said the digital platform would save the service from having to print out forms for more than 40,000 officials qualified under the exercise. Police Discover New Method Thieves Used To Break Into Vehicles

According to the police, the discovery follows the arrests of three suspects who operate and have succeeded in stealing from their targets under the modus in recent times. The Command made this known in a statement signed by DSP Effia Tenge from its Public Affairs Unit. It noted that the syndicate uses sophisticated electronic devices to interfere with the locking system of unsuspecting victims as they park their vehicles. Ayawaso East Suspends Inauguration Of Newly Elected Assemblymen 

The Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly (AEMA) has suspended the swearing-in of the eleven (11) newly elected Assembly Members at the just ended District Level elections in December 2019 over a protest against the number of government appointees. The inaugural ceremony on Thursday, 23rd January was distributed by some elected members and their supporters believed to be members of the opposition NDC who fiercely resisted the swearing-in of six other members as government representatives at the assembly.
